Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information POA Safaris collects when you enquire about a safari or browse this site, why we collect it, who else can see it, and what you can ask us to do with it.

Last updated: 31 August 2026

1. Who we are

POA Safaris is the trading name of Piece of Africa Safaris (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in South Africa and based in Randburg, South Africa. We are the data controller for the information described in this policy.

For anything to do with your data, write to info@poasafaris.com. We answer data requests ourselves; there is no separate privacy team.

Company registration number to be confirmed.

2. Which law applies

We are a South African company, so the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) applies to everything we do.

Most of our guests travel from Europe, the UK, North America and Australia. Because we market to and take bookings from people in the European Union, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies to us as well. Where the two differ, we follow whichever gives you more protection.

3. What we collect

3.1 What you tell us

Our enquiry form asks for your name, age, email address, WhatsApp number, which tour interests you, your preferred dates, how many people are travelling, your budget range, your accommodation preference, and whatever you write in the message box. Only the fields marked required have to be filled in.

If you download an itinerary, we record the name and email address you give us so we can follow up about that trip.

3.2 What we collect automatically

If, and only if, you accept cookies on the banner, Google Analytics records anonymous statistics about which pages are visited and for how long. Decline, and no analytics script loads at all. Our host also keeps standard server logs for security.

We do not use advertising cookies, we do not track you across other websites, and we do not build profiles.

4. Why we use it, and on what basis

  • To answer your enquiry and plan a safari for you. Legal basis: taking steps at your request before entering a contract.
  • To run the trip you have booked, including bookings with lodges, camps and park authorities. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
  • To send you an itinerary you asked for, and to follow up about that trip. Legal basis: your consent, withdrawable at any time.
  • To keep financial and booking records. Legal basis: our legal obligations under South African law.
  • To keep the website working and secure, and to understand which pages are useful. Legal basis: your consent for analytics, legitimate interests for security.

We do not send marketing emails to people who have not asked for them, and we never sell or rent your details to anyone.

5. Who else sees your data

We use a small number of service providers to run the business. They only process your data on our instructions.

ProviderWhat it doesWhere
NetlifyWebsite hosting and contact form submissionsUSA / global CDN
Namecheap Private EmailOur email inboxesUSA
SupabaseContent and gallery storage for the siteEU region
Google AnalyticsAnonymous traffic statistics, only after you accept cookiesUSA
MapboxThe route and destination mapsUSA

We also share what is necessary with the lodges, camps, transport operators and park authorities used on your specific trip. Usually that is your name and the dates you are travelling; sometimes passport details where a park or border requires them.

Because several of these providers are outside South Africa and the European Economic Area, your data may be transferred abroad. Where that happens we rely on the standard contractual protections those providers offer.

6. How long we keep it

Enquiries that do not become bookings are kept while the conversation is live and for a reasonable period afterwards, in case you come back to us. Booking and financial records are kept for as long as South African tax and company law requires. Analytics data expires on Google's own schedule.

Exact retention periods to be confirmed and stated here.

You can ask us to delete your data sooner, unless we are legally required to keep it.

7. Your rights

Whether you are covered by GDPR, POPIA or both, you can ask us to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete
  • Ask us to delete it
  • Object to processing, or ask us to restrict it
  • Withdraw consent at any time, including for cookies
  • Ask for a copy of your data in a portable format
  • Complain to a supervisory authority

Email info@poasafaris.com and we will respond within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm who you are first, so that we do not hand your information to somebody else.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled it, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa, or, if you are in the EU or UK, to your own national data protection authority.

8. Cookies

The banner you see on your first visit controls one thing: whether Google Analytics loads. Nothing analytical runs before you choose, and declining does not limit any part of the site.

To change your mind later, clear this site's data in your browser settings and the banner will appear again.

9. Children

Our tours are for travellers aged 18 and over, and this website is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly collect data about anyone under 18. If a booking includes a younger family member, their details reach us from the adult making the booking.

10. Changes

If we change how we handle personal data we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes affecting people who have already enquired will be sent by email.
